In case Electrode quickban isn't a premature ApFools joke, congrats to TC for making the most laughable, baseless and straight up awful decision in the history of this game. Have you even looked at tiering policies once to get an idea how sparingly quickbans should be used?

Edit: Quickbanning for Support Uber Characteristics for fast screens set up, just take a minute just think how ridiculous that sounds. Just fucking think.

Weak ass council lmao... Banning electrode without even testing it, where were you when Lucario dropped? Or when p2 controlled UU for ages?

Let me try to analyze it in my perspective.

1- Context is needed in every tiering decision, especially when it comes to a potential uber support characteristic:
In OU, screens are paired with Cloyster/Volcarona/Conkeldurr/Scizor/etc... However, in most cases, all those Pokemon can be handled by already common Pokemon (Dragons/Gyarados for Volcarona - Rotom-W/Scizor/Magnezone for Cloyster - Cofagrigus/Hippowdon for Conkeldurr, etc.)

In UU screens are paired with Venomoth/ Azumarill/ Scrafty /Blastoise/ Bisharp, etc etc. Again, common Pokemon that handle them already exist in the tier:  (Crobat for Venomoth/Scrafty - Mandibuzz/Vaporeon for Azumarill - Heracross prevents Bisharp/Scrafty from sweeping, etc - Blastoise is probably the trickiest of the bunch, but still is easily phased by Empoleon if it doesnt pack EQ or hazed by Vaporeon or whatever similar)

In NU things change. The tier is much more offensive and the walls mostly comprise of the same few things. Also, unlike OU and, at some extent, UU, NU's offensive metagame is frailer, with less key resistances, meaning they won't be eating many hits at all (Compare how different it is with OU, where Scizor and dragons can take plenty of hits)
Because of this, you are forced to have walls in order to stop set up mons. Is this a bad thing? Not necessarily. However, how consistently can these walls stop those set up mons? Not much. Feraligatr, for instance, has one very shaky answer in the form of Quagsire, which is by itself abusable. Everything else lies in the bottom pit of usage (Tangrowth - Leafeon) so they are irrelevant. Most Gallade/Drapion's answers rely on being able to pressure them hard enough and quickly, which is no longer the case with screens (EX:  How jolly golbat was used for gallade, or how steelix beats drapion).

But now you are asking: How is that different from setting screens with already existing stuff like Froslass/Espeon/Serperior?
Again, context is needed and you should be asking instead: How consistently can the already existing stuff set screens, how can they be played around by the enemy, and how does Electrode sets itself apart from them?

First electrode is much faster, meaning it no longer has to rely on a few speedtiers to set their screens (It also can taunt more Pokemon)
Second Electrode has some moves that make their team gain momentum after setting screens - Volt switch /Explosion/Teleport. Froslass and Serperior have not.
Third, Electrode has a much better defensive typing than all of the others, meaning it can set up screens against more Pokemon.
Fourth, although this is not very relevant, Electrode has an useful passable ability all others lack - Static- But I won't go deeper into this one.
Finally, as a bonus point, let's look at the top usage mon: Blaziken (I told you context mattered). How many common fast screen setters can set up against it? None, they are all outsped and ohkoed. Electrode, however, is faster than even scarf blaziken, and can easily set both screens against it, otherwise the chicken is forced out. And, honestly, the difference between being able to set up against the top used mon and being unable to do so, in any tier, is huge.
In any other words, Electrode is able to set screens against more stuff, which means it makes it easier for others to come into the field next with screens already activated, which also means it is much better at supporting them than whatever we had prior to it.

Ofc not all this is set in stone. Under the right circumstances, Scrafty can sweep even against Crobat, but that's not the point. The point is not only that NU is much worse equipped to deal with boosters than other tiers, which already makes the comparison between tiers invalid, but also that Electrode in NU is so much better than anything else that shares its role that comparing them even in the same tier is equally invalid. Does this make Electrode necessarily Uber support? No, but at the very least makes it potentially discussable.

(Yes, Whimsicott is the best answer against any screen team, but that thing is sitting below 3% usage so don't even try to mention it as any sort of argument, thank you).

NataliaSad reacted to Draekyn in Short-term Solution to 64-man Tournament Rewards
While you've made efforts when it comes to tournament rewards I don't think we're quite there yet. The shinies are underwhelming in an overflowing market where even the highest-value shinies are worth 1/10th-1/100th of most limited vanities, you're still intent on providing non-shiny rewards to official tournaments for reasons I can understand.
Although K9's suggestion is what I'd really like to see (see link below), and this doesn't replace an actual long-term solution, here's what I'm suggesting:

A distinct & recognizable particle effect added to any tournament reward pokemon that would serve as additional bragging rights and that might incentivize winners to actually try & fit those pokemon into their teams.
Bragging rights are what most people play tournaments for anyway, prizes are often just a bonus ranging from somewhat helpful to completely irrelevant.
While waiting for an actual solution, might aswell double down on those bragging rights.

    K9's suggestion

Hey, it's another one of these again. No, please don't run away yet.

As the title implies, this post is to initiate discussion about the current event system in PokeMMO. My concern (that I've been feeling for a good while) has been that the events in PokeMMO have been far too identical to each other to really be interesting anymore. Another tournament, just with a different shiny prize. Another catch event, just some different specie to catch. Another Scavenger Hunt but apparently we haven't been catching Flying-types yet.

People who have been around for a while know that this hasn't been always the case. PokeMMO used to have a plethora what we used to call "gimmick tournaments" with custom rulesets, some of which were great and some that... could have used some more thought. But in both cases, I've come to realize those kinds of events were the ones to keep the game interesting. It utilized this game's uniqueness - the MMO aspect. Having nothing but automated tournaments doesn't really set this game noticeably apart from, let's say "Smogon tournaments". Rather than spectating the games with just username, you have a customizable avatar to watch games with. That's how it feels, really.

What I'm suggesting you could do is to revive what we used to call "gimmick tournaments" at least in some form and host these events somewhere in the overworld, in an actual location in the game. If you need ideas, I mean there were all kinds of attempts (STAB-tournaments, monotype-tournaments, trivia-PvP combinations etc) so there were plenty of things that were fun that could be revived. And I wouldn't even care if you tried something completely new, even if it is something silly, just to try out if a concept works. Even unsuccessful attempts of something "weird" would keep this game more interesting.

It is clear this shift happened largely due to automated battle system. There is no doubt the successful implementation of both automated tournament system as well as matchmaking improved the quality of this game by a lot. But it also slightly killed the soul of the old PokeMMO, which is what I've come to realize initially kept me in this game to begin with. If this soul could be demonstrated also to new players, I think it could improve the player experience by a lot.

I've participated in this kind of discussion briefly in some unofficial conversation channels and a common concern against these kinds of non-automated events is that people don't really read PokeMMO Forums, so automated tournaments are the only way to get a reasonable amount of participation in today's PokeMMO. But I think a way to avoid this is to implement a functional event calendar inside PokeMMO client that lists all the upcoming events of PokeMMO (not just PvP-events) and it directs to a forum post that explains the full ruleset to players and directs them to signup. This way players do not have to active forum readers to take part of these events and they can get the information of events already from in-game client.

I do also recognize having custom rulesets have become less implementable because the average playerbase of PokeMMO doesn't speak just English anymore. But these events could be hosted to all kinds of language groups in the game. Even just a couple of custom ruleset tournaments per month would keep this game far more interesting than it is now, in my opinion.

Also, I am aware this requires effort from staff members to happen. In order to have these events, there would be staff members to have willingness and time to host all of this and I recognize it isn't small work. But just come up with any event idea you as staff members consider fun and different and I'm sure it will be well received by the playerbase because as I said, I think we really need something new and different to this game. That's all really, thank you for reading.

P.S. You don't have to link me "event suggestion thread", I know it exists. This post isn't just about specific event suggestions but about far broader topic - the whole philosophy behind current event system which I think could use some of the aspects from "the old PokeMMO".
