@Paul 51+ shinies but most of them were shinies most people just look as fodder and that shiny alfa eevee isnt a thing a regular player can obtain. And im also saying that there's more potential for the content like imagine people pulling shits that viable for pvp or cool too have not justa easy 5x hoard

Even with the 1/30k shiny rate, you call hordes and common shinies fodder, so I can't imagine how you'd view them if they were 4x as common, like your original post recommended. I think it's absurd to suggest the economy wouldn't suffer with a 1/8k or 1/20k rate when we've already seen a massive decline in value over the years. I think it's important to have rare items in an MMO for people to work towards, otherwise you have a shallow product with everyone on the same 'level' of 'success'. If someone with 60 hours played could afford to breed competitive shinies or alpha's, what would be the point of having 600 or 6,000 hours played?

I don't know if you have experience with other MMO's but Runescape has a pretty cool system with some of their vanities being locked behind account age. The Veteran Cape is only available to accounts that are at least 10 years old, and I view that as a positive thing. It gives the hardcore players something to look forward to long-term. We have nothing like that here, but limited-time vanities and rare shinies are the one thing we do have, and trying to eliminate one of those wouldn't help the content creation or the playerbase imo

  2. I don't know why you keep using shiny wars as an example, there were 51 shiny pokemon found during team Mr's shiny war, including 6 egg hatches and a shiny alpha Eevee. The idea that the content is boring because it's just basic hordes is your opinion to share, but that doesn't make it reality.

As for Kyu's response, the game has been out for 10+ years so there isn't much to discuss on the topic. I think it's pretty lame to delete the replies and close the post, but nothing any of us say here will impact what they do. The rate isn't going to change

Well I gave a more relevant and comparable example with the Sims and paralives above but the overall metaphor still applies even using those examples...My point is that the number one spot isn't guaranteed just because you're currently the biggest and best on the scene.

Kyu may indeed not really care and that's not really relevant to my point but I know I would and many others would too if another game came along that rivaled this one and started to slowly overtake it as the best PokeMMO. I would hate to jump ship because of all the accomplishments and progress on my account but I would if they provided a superior experience.

I don't play the Sims so it's hard for me to have an opinion on it, but games like Overwatch, Call of Duty, and pretty much every BR have all had copycats and clones, and none ever succeed.

*if* someone could make a superior product to PokeMMO there'd be an argument to make, but either nobody wants to because it's a small market, or nobody knows how to. Even when I look at the other Pokemon MMO's, they take all of the things PokeMMO does well, and go in the opposite direction. 3D graphics, non-canon storyline, no breeding system,, no GTL, extremely easy shiny rates, etc. Nobody has attempted to take what PokeMMO does well & improve upon it.

You know... Block buster thought the same about Netflix...

Mike Tyson was the champ until buster Douglas...

And Internet explorer was the #1 browser for years until chrome came along.

My point is that you never know who's in the shadows taking notes about the uguu's in your armor and plotting to take you down.

They may have had a ten year headstart and have a load of experience to back it up but that doesn't mean that the number one spot is guaranteed for the duration of PokeMMOs existence.

Like I said bro they can afford to do as they please in the face of player dissatisfaction because they're pretty much the only horse in the race worth riding but if a legit Clydesdale shows up then the real race is on

Pokemon MMO's are a very niche genre of video games, trying to compare that to something on the scale of an internet browser or professional sport is very farfetched.

and as Kyu has made clear in the past, this is just a hobby for him. I doubt he'd be devastated if PokeMMO *only* had a 10-year run of success.

If PokeMMO had a legit competitor that they had to contend with everything you said goes out the window

It took them 10 years to build this project to where it is today, there will never be any competitor who makes a game as polished as this one. This gives them the ability to run their game in whatever way they'd like, whether you or I agree with how it's run.

You can criticize them for how they run their game but don't pretend like they're hurting themselves or the future of the game. The game is not going to collapse because the forum dwellers, who make up a very small % of the total playerbase, are upset again.

    Pro

Nothing better than losing hours of progress because their servers crash & have rollbacks every week, Kyu is trembling at their polished, well-made product.

  6. I've played the game for 6 years and they've never been on time on any of their announcements, you either learn to deal with it or move on and do something else with your time. No amount of backlash will change how they run things because the amount of people complaining on the forums is such a small number compared to the overall playerbase who will continue to buy RP and play the game regularly.

I do enjoy seeing people experience this for the first time though, brings back memories 😹

  7. People have debated how to revive these tiers for 5 years. Some changes help but they never last. It's nice having the option to play a niche tier but the reality is most people don't have any interest in them, regardless what changes they've tried making.

maybe you can't revive something that was never alive to begin with 💀

the next major introduction of new monsters is going to be a very long process, and we'd very much like to prevent a scenario like our Gen 3 -> Gen 5 transition where the game basically died for a year

This conversation is a good example of why we typically ask for more transparency/communication, this isn't something I considered prior to this thread. If your goal is to eventually work on future generations, which I had assumed were out of the picture, I understand wanting to have something lined up for the year(s) it would take.

On the topic of staggering abilities, are you able to share how often new alphas will become available after the event, and how the species will be decided for the swarms?

stalling content doesn't generally make players play longer. I'm not sure why you have the latter opinion

"Hidden Abilities give us an opportunity to extend the lifespan of the game by continually introducing new batches of metagame-changing monsters, before we eventually introduce new generations."

I understood these comments as hidden abilities are ready, but won't be released until later dates to keep us playing the game for longer & extending the game's lifespan. I don't understand that as the reason to stagger the release of hidden abilities, because your game isn't dying anytime soon and you've shown you are capable of making interesting content, so there's no reason to believe you won't continue doing so in the future to keep the game alive.

If you want to go into other reasons to keep hidden abilities unreleased, such as how it would affect the meta or in what ways they should be released, that'd be a different conversation. My comments were just in regards to the game's lifespan and stalling content to keep it alive.
