Season 2 - 2023/24 --- Credits to @Requi for the official Grand Slam Logo.

Introducion

As all people might know, on the 2022-23 period, the first and trial Season of the PokéMMO Grand Slam, hosted by CaioXLive, ended on July 05th, with the host ending up with the Trophy!

However, the tours had flaws. One and the main was the lack of organization, visible of the tour. The first and major problem was the Rules for automated tours, making it take longer than intended to finish. The proposal idea was to do all of the tour in one month, but it took more than 3 to finish all 9 qualifiers.
So, for this season, we're going to do the things different.

Host's note: The Season's year will be 2023-24 due to this year being the preparation. Not necessarily it will start some tour, at 2023.

Changes from 2022-23 Season 1 to 2023-24 Season 2

Here at list of official changes:

  • New: Final Tournament - Home venue
    • On finals, for every single game until semifinal, the player with highest placement not only get the third match tier choice, but also the right to select where he wants to the match happens. Secret base is not allowed to be a host venue, unless this suggestion done by @caioxlive13 gets implemented before tour starts, that would make viable to host there: https://forums.pokemmo.com/index.php?/topic/159302-qol-reforming-the-secret-bases/.
If the suggestion gets implemented, all matches done on secret base would have to be public view. That means people would have to give acess to people see.
  • Adjusted: All tours will be Scheduled tournaments.
    • That means all the tours' matches will work like the ones from Teams league: you schedule with your opponent when to play. You has a full week to play. No more livetours to qualify for now.
  • Adjusted: Qualifications tournaments will be reduced from 15 to 5.
    • With the tournaments being scheduled, there is no reason for multiple qualifiers. Previously it was with the idea of avoiding harm a specific timezone, since all of them was livetours.
  • Adjusted: Official Banlist and Rules - Bans adaptation Period
    • All changes when applied, will be valid only on following week. That means if a mon gets banned from a tier on week 4, they will still be valid for week 4 and banned for week 5. However when we check the changes caused by bans, we will look at the day that change has been announced, not when it will be active on metagaming. For example, if Garchomp gets banned on 22/03/2024, at week 3 of the tournament, even if the ban will only take effect alongside with the tier changes happening officially(31/03/2024), from week 4 onwards Garchomp is no longer allowed even if the change wasn't active yet. At same time, when a mon gets unbanned, even if will only take effect alongside when the tier changes happening officially, they will be not allowed on the week that was announced but will be on the following week.
  • Removed from Grand Slam Series: Doubles Tiers
    • We're recognizing early that most part of people don't play singles and doubles at high level. It's simply not fair to a majority of community force them onto a whole different play, and Little Cup also force this degree of difficulty to learn the mechanics, but is far more hard to a player adapt to a Doubles Metagaming than Little Cup, the degree of difficulty to learn Little Cup is far more acceptable.
  • Removed from Grand Slam Series: Live tours for Qualifications
    • Just because live tour is bad. Even forcing them to Weekends, people don't join because a big chunk of players cannot be online at the time of the tours. Scheduled tours allows more people to join, since they can schedule the match to when it's comfortable for both players be online.
    • Note: Some Livetours can still happen, but would be only the Warm-up/Pre-seasonal tournaments. They wouldn't count to final table at all.

How the tournament works
- There will be 5 qualifiers tournaments, all of them running at same time. One from each official Slam tiers: Over Used(OU)/Under Used(UU)/Never Used(NU)/Untiered(UT)/Little Cup(LC)
Over Used, Under Used and Never Used will follow the official clasules and banlist.
Untiered, since it's not a official tier, will have their ruleset defined later. It was supposed to use the ruleset of Unofficial Formats discussion thread, like on the last edition, but for some unknown reason the said thread was closed.
Little Cup, will follow the clasules and banlist determined on Little Cup Club.

All of them will have no limit to ins. And for each round, we will have a extra week. The calendar is incert due to that.

Prizepool and Donations
Like every grand tour, the prize is based on donations. More donations, more prize, more hype.

Spoiler

Prizepool Distribution:

  • 40% of the Prizepool will go for the Grand Slam Champion.
  • 20% of the Prizepool will go for the General Table Champion.
  • 10% of the Prizepool will go for the Grand Slam Runner-Up
  • 10% of the Prizepool will go for the Grand Slam Third Place
  • 20% will be distributed among the 5 Qualifiers tournaments, 4% to each one of them
    • Out of those 4%
      • 50% is for the Qualifier winner
      • 30% is for the Qualifier Runner-up
      • 15% is for the Qualifier Third Place
      • 5% is for the Qualifier Fourth Place
  • 5% will be used to cover Tour costs like Logos and Signatures. If there is something left, would be sended to the Next edition's prizepool

Donations will be collected on the Account: PGSII

If people have any doubts or concerns, question me.
I warn that Host identity would be unknown until the tour is officially announced. Don't ask me. Due to excessive hating over the tour, I decide to reveal only on the end of the Tour who I am. I will follow the advice on tour message and avoid being attacked by a random people that hate me, i won't tell who because this can help figuring out who I am.

Metagamings Ruleset

Official tiers:

Following same official banlists, except the changes defined below, and can change if needed. We will not do Unbans, because this would be excessive and give a lot of liberty to us customize the metagamings at the point of not being them anymore, but we can and will ban things from being used on official tiers' duels if seems to be broken, but TC simply doesn't want to ban or are taking too long to do it.

Play Restrictions :
 - Arena Trap and Shadow Tag is banned from OU, UU and NU duels of Grand Slam.
 - Crawdaunt is banned from UU duels of Grand Slam.

 - Draco Meteor + Deino/Zweilous/Hydreigon is banned from all tiers of Grand Slam*
*Tier Council will still held a vote about this. However, regardless of the outcome it are banned from Grand Slam.

Little Cup

image.png.121b4a4d29fe493c52cac0eaeabba4da.png

Duel settings: Set the tier to "Over Used" and the Level Scale to 5. Additionally, for Grand Slam, you has to set timelimit to 60 minutes if playing Matches valid for Qualification , and 90 minutes if you're playing for the Finals tournament.

Untiered

image.png.5d26ba1dad33329f1ee11d049e03dfaa.png

Premise

Untiered is a metagame as defined in the Pokemmo Pokedex that bans all Pokémon from the upper tiers in OU, UU & NU

Play Restrictions :

Players cannot use Pokémon from the Uber tier, OU, UUBL, UU, NUBL, NU.
Clasules and Rules: Tournament Mode Enabled (Enabling Advanced Options on Duel Requests enables the tournament mode), Species Clasule, OHKO Clasule, Evasion Clasule, Sleep Clasule. Additionally, you has to set timelimit to 60 minutes if playing Matches valid for Qualification , and 90 minutes if you're playing for the Finals tournament.

UTBL(Untiered Banlist)/Borderline 3:

- Emboar
- Milotic
- Quick Claw and Focus Band
- Moody
- Arena Trap and Shadow Tag

Watchlist:
- Braviary
- Torterra
- Vanilluxe
------

Bans notes:

  • Milotic's ban is a Preventive ban. Milotic is still on UU at the time this post is written, but gets 3% usage on tier and are on risk of being Never Used, and possibly untiered. The problem is the tier doesn't have too powerful physical sweepers so Flame Orb Milotic could wall absolutely all of them with no problem. Also, the main special attackers users in past, has almost no way to deal with it too very well.
Even Omastar, one of the strongers shell smash users and one of stronger shell smash attackers, can't do too much against Milotic. A Hidden Power Grass after a setup, barely manages to land a 3HKO: +2 252 SpA Omastar Hidden Power Grass vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Milotic: 78-94 (38.6 - 46.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after burn damage
  • Emboar is banned from being a insane powerhouse for the Untiered format. Even being slow, Reckless attacks hits very well almost all the tier, and the tier is too weak to be able to hold it back. Most part of good physical walls are in NU, and some of their checks become staples there, such as Mantine. Water types are a pain, but a simply Wild Charge vanishes them away.
  • Quick Claw and Focus Band are RNG-reliant items, they don't need a explanation to why it's banned. King's Claw and Razor Fang aren't there only because the items was nerfed.
  • Moody is banned on all metagamings, untiered is not a exception.
  • Trapping is simply uncompetitive. Tier Council will not take actions on official metagaming, we will.

Signup Rules Explanation:

Unlike what would look like, there would not have multiple posts for Signing up to the Grand Slam Qualifiers.

Instead, there will be a single thread when you will fill the following template:

Spoiler

Nickname:
Tiers:
Discord:

Example of Filling Up:
Nickname: PGSOfficial
Tiers: OU/UU/Untiered/Little Cup
Discord: pgsofficial

The tiers you select will be the tiers you'll be signing up to compete. You are allowed to complete on multiple tournaments.
Hosts are allowed to play, but they has 48 hours less to send their registers. This is to avoid host advantage to sign on last minute.
People can signup from Mail ingame or forums.
 - If signup from forum, you has to specify if it's your signup.
 - If you signup from ingame or for other people in forums, you has to give the forum account of the player that you're signing up. If he doesn't have one, he has to create one.

Matching Schedule and Usage data:

After the week post with the matches is send on forums, you need to schedule with your oponent asap. The duels must be scheduled in 4 days and:

  • If Both players failed to attempt to schedule: Both are eliminated from tournament. For not comprometing the bracket, the people listed on left will count as passed to next round on Challonge, but they will be eliminated by walkover right in that round and on Standings will not get the said win.
  • If One player attempted to schedule, but other failed to do so: The player that tried to do the match, wins.
  • If Both players are trying to schedule: Both will play the match and a extension can be given if needed.

The matches are Best of 3. People who wins, advances. Results has to be reported on discord.

For Untiered and Little Cup, the team preview has to be posted together with the results, and the LC usage will be repassed to Little Cup Club. The usage is needed to be collected because those two formats has no automated usage and the usage is needed for Tiering decisions.
People are not forced to send the team preview if, and only if the match is recorded and posted on youtube. However, the link for the match needs to be posted.

Points system and Leaderboard:

The point system is how we will rank a player's performance during the tours.

We will have 2 distinct leaderboards:
 - The first one is for deciding who will go for the POffs or not, and who will have the Third Tier Advantage and right to set where the match will take place on the Finals. This will also be the main table.

Score System will be based on rounds, futher rounds you pass, better your score. In pratice:
1 Round - 1 Point
2 Rounds - 2 Points
3 Rounds - 3 Points
4 Rounds - 5 Points
5 Rounds - 7 Points
6 Rounds - 9 Points
7 Rounds - 11 Points
8 Rounds - 13 Points

 - Second Leaderboard will be used on Finals and will be used to determine seeding of that phase only.

The points given for the Regular phase will be multiplied by 10. And for the Second Stage, we will have bonus score:
+ 20 Points for the Defending Slam Champion if he participate.
+ 15 Points for the Current Runner-Up of Grand Slam if he participate.
+ 3 Points for each qualifier won on previous edition
+ 5 Points for each HoF entry you have as tournament winner
+ 3 Points for each HoF entry you have as tournament runner-up
+ 1 Points for each HoF entry you have as tournament 3rd/4th Place
Note: Only a maximum of 6 HoF entrys would be counted at all.

Finals:

When all qualifiers ends, the Top 16 of the qualifiers will advance directly onto finals and the 17th-32nd will go onto reserve list. Like on Team Tournament's Cup of the year, players will have a sign-up period to confirm their presence on finals.
They have to fill the following template:

Spoiler

Nickname:
Main Tier:
Tie-break Tier:
Match Location:
Discord:

All matches prior to semifinals will be on the Best of 3. First two matches will be on the "Main tier" choosen by both players. Third match will be on the tiebreak tier choosen by the best-ranked player on the main leaderboard, that are of the match
The match will be where the Best-ranked player of main leaderboard choose to be the match.

Bracket will not be fully randomized: For Round 1 we will have seeding: Top 8 players on Pot 1, 9th-16th players on Pot 2. Two players from same pot cannot be drawned for a match on Round 1(For example, 1st place and 7th place cannot face themselves on round 1.)For Quarterfinals ownards, then the bracket will be randomized.

Semifinals, Third Place and Finals will be on Best of 5 with all tiers of the Slam. Best-Ranked player still can choose the location.

Qualifiers Location:
Due to Johto's Release, now we have 5 regions on PokéMMO. To incentive players to have multiple regions beaten, each qualifier will be hosted on a Region.
Official Locations and Tiers:
Johto: Over Used - TBA
Kanto: Under Used - Silph Co.
Hoenn: Little Cup - Lilycove Contest Hall*
* Note for hoenn: It was supposed to be Never Used Qualifiers hosted there. However, since @Poufilou are hosting Weekly tournaments for Little Cup there, we will also host LC qualifiers there so the LC players won't have to move away to play LC tournaments.
Sinnoh: Never Used - Veilstone's Pokemon Center, Top floor.
Unova: Untiered - Lostlorn Florest

  • 2 weeks later...

If people is wondering a possible starting date, it would not be on November/December. Probablly Febuary or March 2024 it starts, depends of when PSL XVI ends, but we will start things only there. Donation gathering will start on November.

For tournament ins, there is no base requirment. We can use the HoF results to put some people on futher rounds(Example: Insert Top 12 of the results table, starting at least on round of 32) but no guarrantes, and also no plans on blocking/overrestricting people of competing for having no HoF history. Isn't because a player has no official wins that they're necessarily bad.

Only sure is: If the Defending Champions and Runner-Up of Grand Slam, enters for a qualifying tournament and the tournaments fails to get a number of competitors enough to not having byes, when deciding who is getting the byes, the Defending Champions and Runner-Up would have priority over anyone else. If a people manages to get said privillege, it's because he have done a effort for that.

I'm literally busy with Miles's Picks, are hosting Blitz Battle every f*** week, and will compete on PCL at the end of the year. How i would have time to host slam?

Also, thanks to remind me that i need to remove slam of the rule for hosting Blitz Battle Series since the qualifiers are no longer automated.

Imagine spending your free time talking stupid about an event you don't participate in

Imagine being offtopic as f***, this post is about Slam, not world cup. Also, i won't lose my time arguing with you about this.

And please, for everyone that are reading, look at the tour and it's purpose, before looking on host. If the hosts scams everyone in tour, you can report it and staff will take actions, even if hosts be anonymous. Don't jugde people hosting by what they did, like you did with me last year on Slam, or what you did with WilliamHE last year on World Cup 5, or would do if DoubleJ hosts literally any tour(due to PSL 9 coaching scandal). Look if they are hosting the current tour well, because if people seems a mistake, and it are noticed and properly notified, it should be fixed soon or on the next edition it should be fixed, unless the host doesn't care to you. Like the hosts did with my mistakes on first Slam edition. I messed up on Leaderboard of slam. I messed up on the Qualifiers System. But the host announced changes and the changes fixed the problems for this edition. He is not messing up with nothing until now so let's give a chance.

tl; dr: I not blame the host to be anonymous. He is simply scared of people and has reasons for that. If he mess up, he can fix errors later. If he scams people, he can be reported.

This is the main candidate to be the Johto's place to have a tour. Any better location idea on Johto?

Side note: One of the five tours has to be in johto. If you're going to suggest a place it has to be acessible and be on Johto Region.

---<Warm-Ups Announcement>---
Also, we're hosting starting on October the Warm-ups of the Grand Slam. Like mentioned on main post, it would be livetours, the only livetours of the tournament. In order to not interfere too much with @caioxlive13's Blitz Battle Series, that host Weekly community-hosted tours as well, we will host only 6 warm-ups until december, and we will warn the full calendar here at least before 15th September, to CaoiXLive have enough time to shift his tours' times and dates.

I also hate it when caioxlive13 forgets to take account the schedule of the legendary PokeMMO Grand Slam. But maybe caoixlive13 just wants people to forget about PokeMMO Grand Slam by adding his own events, so he can retain his title of undisputed champion PokeMMO Grand Slam. Luckily, as a community, we won't let this happen.

keep believing that i'm the host. You can't prove it.

I already sayed, i can't host and is due to extreme overflow of things to do. Blitz Battle mainly and at the end of year i'll compete on PCL too.

Small rulechange from Signups:
People can signup from Mail ingame or forums.
 - If signup from forum, you has to specify if it's your signup.
 - If you signup from ingame or for other people in forums, you has to give the forum account of the player that you're signing up. If he doesn't have one, he has to create one.

The reason for this change is to get the account of the signed up, so we can get someone to ping if the people gets qualified.
Unlike some hosts there, we will not force anyone to pay fees for signups in-game. Only fee you're going to pay is the $100 you has to pay to send the mail.

Hello Mr. Host, are the following changes a response to the recent discussion that has come to light regarding Blitz Battle 50k signup fees? I agree with the decision but I'd like to hear what @caioxlive13has to say, because this response seems to be targeted at his expense.

Idk what i get pinged but fine.

Also, he sayed: "Pay fees for signups ingame", this looks more directed to Gbwead since he are requesting money for in-game registers. But idk, wait a confirmaton.

Both your though and Caoix's thoughs was right. This is a answer to events paying fees to enter. Sadly i still has to do with fee-based for slam warm ups, bcause i had no Major sponsor for this tournaments. But thankfully no for the qualifiers.
