Welcome to the General Thread of PSL Season 16. The PokeMMO Super League (PSL) is a team-based event where the best competitors face each other weekly to claim a grand prize. Players will be draft-selected by one of eight managers of the season and integrate a team that will aim to win the PSL crown. Once the teams are formed, the competition begins.

There are two phases to the event: the regular season and the playoffs. Based on their performance during the regular round-robin season, each team will head into the playoffs single elimination bracket with some advantages or disadvantages.

Each week, managers will submit a tier-based lineup of players that will face an opposing team’s lineup.

The PSL 16 tiers are:

OU1

OU2

UU

NU

Dubs

LC

Managers choice 1

Managers choice 2

(Managers choice extends to OU, UU, NU, Dubs and LC ONLY. Gimmick tiers are not allowed)

Host

  Hide contents

The host is not allowed to participate in the event as a player or a manager.

Assistants:

If required, I will be using the previous hosts advice and assistance on matters. However I will have final say

Players

  Hide contents

A player signs up for the PSL to compete in duels and represent his/her team on a weekly basis in order to win the grand prize at the end of the season. Players join the PSL by signing up in the “Player Registration” thread during the preseason and will be selected by a manager during the draft. The manager select which tiers his/her players will compete in, but a manager can't force his/her players to compete in a tier he/she didn't sign up for. It is recommended that managers and players work together throughout the season for the best possible outcome. PSL players are the backbone of this event and we need a diverse group to ensure success. Past players have joined from every corner of the planet and have found a ton of enjoyment by meeting new players and challenging themselves to play in a high stakes event. Not every player who registers will be able to play. When you join the PSL, you are agreeing to play for any manager that selects you in the draft and that you are committed to playing throughout the entirety of the season. You will also follow the rules provided and will respect the decisions made by the host.

Draft

  Hide contents

The PSL Preseason Auction will be held over Discord in a private channel. Only managers and the hosts will be allowed voice and typing capabilities. All others present will be muted and act only as spectators. The draft will occur after Player Sign-ups are completed. The time will be decided by all managers and the host in order for full participation.

  • The order of the auction will be announced at the beginning of the auction and will be determined by random chance
  • Managers will be provided with 100 credits each
  • During the auction, a manager can buy the ability to be a playing manager for 13 credits.
  • Once a manager is called, they will have 2 minutes to select a player from the draft list
  • A manager may open the bid at 2 credits (minimum) or state a higher opening bid at the time of selection
  • Once a player is selected, other managers can bid on that player by manually typing their bid
  • A minimum outbid of 1 credit is mandatory, for instance a bid of 4 credits can be outbid by a 5 credits bid
  • Once a bid has been active without any other outbids for 20 seconds, that player will be awarded to the manager's team with the highest bid
  • This will be repeated in subsequent order as indicated at the beginning of the auction
  • Manager's must draft a minimum of 9 players and a maximum of 12 players (unlocking managers to play counts as 1)
  • A manager must keep a minimum number of credits to fill their roster. Credits will be tracked by the host, but please help out as this can get messy with a live auction
  • Once a manager has drafted 9 players, they may "skip" their turn in the draft and no longer participate. Once they have announced this, their draft will be over and they can no longer draft any further players

No player can be drafted and purposefully benched. This is not respectful nor conducive to the PSL. In the event a drafted player is unwilling or incapable of playing, the manager will be able to release that player and replace him/her with someone that wasn't drafted yet.

Managers

  Hide contents

Managers are responsible for leading their teams on and off the field. They are responsible for drafting their teams, setting weekly rosters, ensuring their team follows the rules and communicating team information with the host.

The first two manager spots will be available for purchase/donation to the tournament prize pool PRIOR to the Manager registration

Players who wish to be considered for the remaining six manager positions will sign up in the “Manager Registration” thread when posted. The six managers selected by the host will be chosen based on how well we believe they can lead and motivate their team, in the event of multiple quality candidates salty suite 1v1s may be used to decide who manages. More information regarding the role and responsibilities of a manager will be posted in the manager sign up thread. If the manager is at one point or another too busy to manage, he/she can select their co-captain to run the team temporarily in their absence.

All EIGHT selected managers will be required to submit a 5m holding fee. This fee will be held to ensure managers do not bail on their teams, sabotage their teams or participate in UN-competitive behavior. Otherwise this holding fee will be returned at the end of PSL season 16

Competition

  Hide contents

You will respect your teammates and above all you will respect your manager. If you got drafted by a manager you don't like or want you will have to put these feelings aside. Signing up is like signing a contract, and these are conditions you have to accept. Disobeying your PSL duties will result in being banned from PSL. At any point of time the host can give you a warning or a restriction based on your behaviour. Don’t act like an uguu and you should be fine. Trying to purposely evade matches, or not trying to get your match done for example can result in penalties. It’s impossible for the host to plan for every situation, its possible something will arise that won’t fall within the bounds of the rules. It is important to remember the final decision lies with the host.

Coaching is prohibited in PSL 16. If you are caught being coached, you will be removed from the event.

Ghosting is not allowed. Anyone that gets caught being ghosted or ghosting will be banned from the event. Signing up on an alt is also not allowed unless you make sure everyone knows it's an alt. Anyone that gets caught signing up on an alt without revealing his/her real identity will be banned from the event.

Do not expect the host or assistants to go on witch hunts unless there is overwhelming evidence of wrongdoing. A screenshot of players in a vocal discord channel is not overwhelming evidence for instance.

Regular Season + Playoffs

  Hide contents

Seven week round robin, each team will play every other team once. A team will receive 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie and 0 points for a loss.

After the seven weeks are up, the top 4 teams will enter the playoffs. The playoffs will be formatted as follows

Playoffs week 1:

Semi final 1 - 1st place vs 4th place

Semi final 2 - 2nd place vs 3rd place

Playoffs week 2:

1/2nd playoff - Winner of Semi final 1 vs Winner of Semi final 2

3/4th playoff - Loser of Semi final 1 vs Loser of Semi final 2

Lineup

Each week, managers must submit a lineup composed of players of their team that will represent them against another team in each of the official PokeMMO tiers.

Activity Wins

  Hide contents

Main Priority: Who missed a set scheduled date/time

Priority 1: Who attempted to communicate

Priority 2. If tied above, who tried to schedule

Priority 3. If tied above, who gave the most availability windows (reasonable ones)

Priority 4. If tied above, whose availability windows were earlier in the week (no regard for Sunday schedulers)

Priority 5. If tied above, who’s the noob fishing for the W

The above is a rough idea of what will be used when needed to give an activity win or to completely void a battle. We will not be robotic here so please don't try to use this to your advantage, we will know and you won't like the result. EXTENSIONS WILL NOT BE GRANTED 🙂

Trading

  Hide contents
  • Trading will be allowed during regular season
  • Teams no longer able to qualify can no longer trade
  • All trades will be assessed and can be rejected by the host & assistants
  • Co-captains cannot be traded

Donations

  Hide contents

The donations will be distributed as follows:

  • 50% of the donations will go to the winning team of the playoffs
    • 45% of the grand prize will be divided evenly among the members (players and manager) of the winning team.
    • Another 45% of the grand prize will be divided evenly in an amount of portions equal to the amount of individual wins the team got during the season and each portion will go directly to the players that got these wins.
    • 10% of the grand prize will go directly to the manager of the winning team.
  • 20% of the donations will go to the runner-up of the playoffs
    • 45% of the runner-up prize will be divided evenly among the members (players and manager) of the runner-up team.
    • Another 45% of the runner-up will be evenly divided in an amount of portions equal to the amount of individual wins the team got during the season and each portion will go directly to the players that got these wins.
    • 10% of the runner-up prize will go directly to the manager of the winning team.
  • 5% of the donations will go to the third placed team
    • 45% of the runner-up prize will be divided evenly among the members (players and manager) of the runner-up team.
    • Another 45% of the runner-up will be evenly divided in an amount of portions equal to the amount of individual wins the team got during the season and each portion will go directly to the players that got these wins.
    • 10% of the runner-up prize will go directly to the manager of the winning team.
  • 10% of the donations will go the individuals that record duels with or without commentary
  • NEW 5% of the donations will go to a underdog fund - Only teams mathematically eliminated from playoffs qualify for a share of this prize, by defeating a team still in playoff contention. This 5% will be split evenly between the players who won their individual game and the manager of the team. Multiple teams may qualify to split this 5% and as such it will be given out after the regular season. If the 5% underdog fund is not earned it will be added to the final pot for the winning team
  • 10% of the donations will be allocated for SALTY SUITES

Managers will be required to commission their own artwork if wanted/required. I will be donating a 5m flat fee to an artist for a PSL winners signature at the end of the season

NEW: Advantage chips

  Hide contents

Managers will each be given 3 advantage chips prior to the draft. These chips may be used during the regular season or traded. These chips MAY NOT be used during the playoffs. The chips are as follows and may only be used once.

  • CHIP 1: Lineup snipe - See your opposing managers lineup prior to the week being announced, if both opposing managers use this both of the chips are wiped out and void
  • CHIP 2: Emergency sub - For the once a season bus accidents/earthquakes, a manager may activate this chip after the Thursday sub deadline to sub a player in for an absent player, the subbed in player must be willing to make the availability of their opponent.
  • CHIP 3: Double pick - Must be activated prior to the week being announced. When activated both manager choice tiers for a given week are granted to the manager using this chip. The opposing manager will be unaware of this until the week begins, but may sub out their player for one on their bench prior to the Thursday deadline. If both opposing managers use this both of the chips are wiped out and void

Chip 1 and 3 cannot be used in the same week

In addition to the above 3 advantage chips, the following 'gimmick' chips will be made available throughout the season for managers/teams to compete for/earn for their side. They are as follows and may only be used/earned once

  • CHIP 4: Salty suites chip - Earned by having/starting legitimate drama with one of your own players (subject to approval by the host) - Activate this chip to have a guaranteed salty suites match up against your own player in a tier they signed up for - Win and the defeated player is released from your team and may be replaced with a free agent, any prize money they would have won is given to the manager, the released player is not an eligible free agent. The winner of the matchup is eligible for a share of the salty suites prize money.
  • CHIP 5: Clean sweep chip - Earned by clean sweeping 8-0ing the opposing team - Activate this chip to force the losing manager to do at least a 100 word write up on why his team lost 8-0 (roasts are encouraged), if the losing manager refuses to participate their 5m holding fee will be forfeit to the winning manager.
  • CHIP 6: Mascot chip - Earned by having every single player of your team use the teams mascot (or its evolved/unevolved form) in their matchup and winning the week (screenshots of the win AND mascot in the team required) - Activate this chip to win 15m for the manager to distribute amongst the team as he/she desires.

NEW Rules

No spoiler to make this clear to everyone. There will now be a substitution deadline of Thursday at 23:59 EST. No substitutions will be allowed after this window (outside of the emergency sub chip detailed above). Managers it is your responsibility to ensure that your player has submitted availability and will fight to ensure this is not an issue

Disconnect rule - In the event a disconnect occurs, one of two things will happen - If the disconnect happens in preview or during round 1, the battle will restart with both opponents making the same selections. - If the disconnect happens during round 2 or later, the disconnected user will receive a loss and no rematch will occur.

NEW: Salty Suites

  Hide contents

Drama is encouraged, I want people to fight, argue, bicker, disrespect each other (while following forum/ingame rules please). To this extent we will be looking to schedule salty suite matchups every week during PSL.

10% of the tournament prize pool will be allocated for the winner of the salty suites. This prize money will be distributed at the end of PSL 16 evenly between each winner. Salty suite matchups will be determined by the community and approved by the host.

Could we adjust the rules so that matches can be bought with money as well, it would make things much simpler

No but you and anyone that has an issue is welcome to make a tournament where that is the case

I'm genuinely annoyed that some posts have been removed and someone actually received warning points without prior warning on this thread for something pretty mild for PSL standards and just in general. It definitely doesn't warrant a whole week ban from forums. What @MathewMatposted was legitimate criticisms for the sake of the integrity of the event given that the actions of Doc jeopardised entire seasons in the past. This is the main thread announcing this season's PSL where we discuss the new host and the event, so I'm not really sure how that constitutes derailing in all honesty. Can't we not share our concerns without the risk of receiving a warning point because a certain someone can't stand the fact that we won't look past actions they've made in the past and continues to this day to take no accountability whatsoever? That's ridiculous, we might as well not have a thread in the first place. Beside, these decisions to ban Doc were made public and were done by previous hosts which are players, this is common knowledge for anyone that isn't an outsider. This is no account ban, there is no digging dirt on anybody here, no one is revealing private information.

So which is it ? Drama or no drama? Or does it not apply to you? Rules for thee and not for me? He brought you drama but you shrugged it off and told staff to remove it. Or are you gonna argue that it was against some forum rules? Worst things have been said on other PSL threads in the past. Staff have always shown some leniency in this regard. This is extremely mild in comparison.
