  6. It's like saying, since we can't prevent drugs consumption at 100%, well then let's allow it because we suck. That's the most illogical thing I've read. Last PSL rules were so strict compared to the previous ones, of course maybe it didn't completely prevent coaching, but I'm sure it did to a certain level which was acceptable. Also there seems to be an overestimation of the degree of coaching in the game. In my team's case for example, there was literally 0% coaching and I can assure you no one from the team tried to help any other one during their fights. First because our members had good personalities and had some big ego, like Nahwel for example, he pissed me off all the time because he always refused to get help from anyone, even revealing his team was a No from him. Some people didn't even talk during the whole event and we had no contact or whatsoever between us, yet we trusted their plays. Would be an insult to accuse enchanteur of being coached, the guy won more tournaments than the times some of your moms change their underwears. I think we should let go of out fear of facing someone who's getting coached. It happens all the time in tournaments. How many tournaments were won by a guy who faced a whole team of coaches. There are even some teams that have the reputation of being a coaching team since they do a tremendous effort to help their players win against loners, I won't cite anyone, but, PSL should go upward. Last one was a success when it came to the rules, if i were to change one thing, it would be to have hosts that can actually communicate, who have the cojones to back up their decisions and to assume them. Tl; Dr: Should we allow coaching? Nty.

  7. The gulf in responsibility between nurses and doctors is so big that it’s nothing but a compliment to be called a nurse knowing that you are in fact a (Juniour[?]) Doctor. I love Kami and JJ but despite all Pokemon-related dispositions, we can’t not acknowledge the commitment that JJ puts towards improving patient care. But let’s not digress too far. Staff suck and PSL rules. Let’s get some hype. Hungover edit: god damn I chat some crap when I’m drunk. My last point still stands though

  9. I'm not speaking for Gunt, but here's what's up: If we allow coaching: 1) You'd essentially be watching the same player face each other multiple times, which would get boring after a while. 2) Any honest player who gets drafted and wishes to play, will probably get subbed out if he disobeys his manager's request to get ghosted. Ultimately there's nothing he can do correct the situation. If ghosting was disallowed, he'd be able to remedy the situation by showing logs that he was asked to ghost. 3) You'd be hampering the development of any player that wishes to improve. If we don't allow coaching: 1) Those players who are in the "pro-coaching" position are still going to coach or get coached. Although they have to do this carefully in order to not get caught, but like you said, it will still be hard to catch the "non-braindead" players. There is a fear or paranoia that if one player gets coached and the other doesn't, then the player who doesn't get coached is going to definitely lose. So the mentality is that to even the tables, we allow both sides to coach. Regarding my first sentence, remember that this is pokemon and it's still possible for a non-coached player to win his game. The coached player does have an advantage of seeing things from multiple perspectives, but that also comes with its own drawbacks. I'd rather we implement a policy to take away the "upper hand" to even out the situation rather than allowing both sides to coach. Even if like you said, that with the implementation of a non-coaching policy that some people will still coach and that there would be one player having an advantage over his opponent because his uguu gets held by his friends, it's not an end-all situation for the player who is being honest.

  14. Explain to me again why someone who is against coaching would want to enforce a rule allowing for it to happen. Your logic fails in the part I bolded, because if you allow coaching to happen, people are going to claim that the random player who won his duel brilliantly was also coached. Ghosting isn't literally the same as coaching, but the purpose and result are the same, which to me makes no difference as to why you should differentiate it too much. I don't understand the rest of your sentence in terms of what point you were trying to get across. Explain to me your train of thought of how "allowing coaching will diminish the need for coaching?" When someone is being coached, they are hardly conscious of what moves they are making, and because of this they will literally never improve. If allowing coaching would diminish the need for coaching, then almost everyone here should be at the peak of their game because coaching is allowed extensively for officials. You can't eliminate whomsoever you call "noobs" because that term is relative, not absolute. Every player here is either a noob or god depending on whom you're comparing them to. So if you pick a Frags / Bowser like person as captain of a team, the rest of the members will be noobs. Can you name me a few players who have improved solely because of coaching but not because of their own effort? Okay, I see your train of thought here, so you can ignore that specific part of the previous post. I think you're exaggerating the number of players in our game who've gotten good solely by coaching. The way it works is that during your initial stage you can choose to ask for help during your games, but that only gets you so far. Once the training wheels are off, you should be able to build on your own, play on your own etc. This doesn't mean that you can't ask for help afterwards etc. A player who requires coaching is not a player that is meant to play for PSL because this event is meant to pick players who are able to stand on their own two feet. I can give you examples of players like myself, Raaidn, and Bowser who haven't gotten to where we are by being coached. Raaidn and I used to grind the shit out of pokedailies / officials back in 2015 because by playing the game is the only way we would improve, not holding each other's uguus throughout our battle. I can give you another example of myself where I got my ass handed to me by Kriger in PSL DPP and then made it to SPL DPP without ever needing to be coached, but TAUGHT. I do agree with you about how our competitive scene would become stronger overall by having better players who think on their own, but PSL isn't meant to be a "Battling 101" for noobs. You're absolutely correct here about what the reality is like. But do you not also see how wrong it is? You're supposed to buy an all-round player NOT TO COACH, but to help people across all tiers. And that help can come in the form of practice games, teambuilding etc. What would the point of practice games / teambuilding be if the other player was just going to be coached? Again, if coaching was allowed, you should be seeing top notch players everywhere because they were once coached, yet that isn't the case. I'm all for reducing the number of tiers. You're so adamant about how a rule against coaching does not stop ALL coaching and therefore coaching should be allowed. But you still refuse to see how a rule against coaching has stopped coaching to a large degree. EDIT: Smogon has a clear no-coaching rule and you can see how the players who've been punished for being coached have hardly risen to the top (except one or two), whereas the rest of the playerbase that are honest are on a much superior level.

  21. It's so simple-minded or intellectually dishonest to say that those who are for coaching are the ones who want to coach or be coached. Whether as a player or manager, I personally always condemned coaching, it does not prevent me from preferring his permission, there is no inconsistency. Those who enjoy it are certainly the worst players and I attended many duels where the random player won his duel brilliantly against a good player while everyone agreed that he was coached. Allowing coaching would put an end to this hypocrisy for instance. To stigmatize a contrary opinion as you do makes me pity.

  28. Okay, here are some points I'd like to get across: 1) Yeah, I agree with Gunt. It's never been the prize pool but the player pool that makes the competition more interesting. However, that's harder when a lot of the good players have died. I'm not in touch with the competitive scene ingame, so I don't know who is top dog, but I'm definitely curious to find out how good they are. What makes the event interesting is when good players face each other, that's one of the primary reasons why one would watch a game. 2) With the rise in Spanish / Chinese speaking players, there is a huge communication barrier which decreases the fun, as the whole concept of being a team is to have more interactions with each other. The process of battling would be so formalistic / robotic where it'd just be you show up and play, and that's it. There used to be some fun beef that we'd all like to watch, like Zeb / Firelion or Raaidn / Frags, and many more that I can't presently think of. 3) Looking at this thread from roughly three years ago: I'm laughing at Zebra losing to Kalisweet. Life or Jovi if you're reading this, the new meme should be, "Zeb, you completely bad xD" or something along those lines. Shoutout to my loss to Kriger. I was totally salty and humbled that game, which aptly marked the beginning of a horrible season for me. Anyways, my point is that those matchups then looked a lot more interesting compared to now. There were also some minor conflicts happen between ingame teammates and PSL Teammates. Essentially, ingame activity was at an all-time high around those times, which isn't the case. 4) Exclusion of players who don't give a shit. There are a lot of memesters in the community right now who have that "too cool for school" attitude where they announce in normal chat ten minutes before their battle, "Yeah, I'm going to build my team now." Either you're lying which is really a stupid thing to do look good, or you shouldn't waste your teammate's effort / time by half-assing this tour. 4) I don't think PSL should be rushed to compensate for the deadness (merriam webster says that it's a real word) of the game because the "hype" is just going to die down in a week or two, and soon playing your games will become a burden and you'd eagerly wait for the event to end. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Apologies for the overly-pessimistic approach. But these are some other things I feel that would need to happen for PSL to become more hype: 1) Revival of some of the previously dead veterans 2) More english-speaking players so that there'd be an equal ratio of chinese / spanish / english players 3) Staff involvement to give this tournament more desirability or quality. Imagine the reach that would spread across the community if it was announced ingame about this tour. You'd be watched / judged by a majority of people whom you don't know, and for those of you who have played finals often will know what that's like. Except this time it'd be a lot more prestigious.

  29. just because staff is too lazy to punish or police coaching doesn’t mean psl needs to sink to that level. Anyone who claims to value true competitive play should be against coaching, it’s that simple. Also, imagine thinking “you don’t even play this game” is an insult - it’s the highest compliment you can offer on these forums

  31. What is this? This is a thread dedicated to the most iconic player-hosted event in PokeMMO: the PokeMMO Super League (PSL). How does it work? As a manager or player, you can participate in many ways. Managers will draft a team of in-game players to represent them in duels over the course of a season. Players will go head-to-head against players from other teams to claim their dominance in this game and earn the title of PSL Champion. Or you can just be Gbwead and complain all season whilst not even participating in any way. When? No ETA's Given But why? Because the (k)illuminati of the PSL have agreed to wait a bit longer to build HYPE. Remember the World Cup and PSLX (or IX?!) finished not long ago. So what now? Get your donations ready. A thread will be opened in the near distant future to gather funds. As a player-run event, the community has historically provided donations for the prizepool. There is typically upwards of 60-70m in donations, but with the economy as it is I'd hope that there will be more. Who will host? Not me... the new host is pretty lame tbh so I apologize. =)

  42. Hi, so, I see we have a bit of an inflammatory topic to bait me into posting, so here you go: This has been covered several times by other posters so far, but I just want to note, this isn't Venezuela. Lopping zeroes off your currency doesn't solve your problems. We only did that once, and it was because we made an irreparable mistake at the time which forced a hard reset. I think what you want is to try to address inflation, so I'm just going to give a brief overview of inflation in MMO economies real quick: - Yen Inflation When you build a berry or you explode a gym leader/NPC, you get gold. When you get gold, you spend gold, on players or on NPCs. When you spend gold on players, you're not actually destroying gold, you're just moving it around. If we made a mistake here, the proper way to address it is to either stop the gold flow or make you spend more. - Item Inflation When items are built, the supply of "built items" becomes inflated. You turn gold into items. The items don't degenerate in our game. That means we need to have planned obsolesence built into our game's release schedule, which is why your items "degenerate" whenever a new metagame develops by way of a major content update. That's why you get mad at us when you start thinking about HAs and Gen 4. So, the way that we've historically managed this problem is by cutting money supplies, then forcing you all to build new items in some way. We have several major "reset buttons" left, with Sinnoh, HAs, Legendaries, etc. We just have to actually deploy them. While I'm always concerned over hitting a proper level of money flow within the game, I'm not overly concerned about oddities like these past few months, because we have leeway to make mistakes. You should note that I didn't mention any vanities in that paragraph. Those items don't expire. Infact, they're the only items which are immune to inflation by design, because they're released once. RuneScape also has this, although it's called the "party hat economy". Whether that makes the game better is debatable, because while it may seem "pay2win" (protip: we release free versions of limiteds literally every event, although they're not perfectly equatable to paid variants due to natural supply/demand of free vs paid users), it not only provides a store of wealth where it's otherwise impossible, but it ensures that goods traded between players for normal gameplay are able to be consistently inflated (HIGHLY AVAILABLE) by pegging peak wealth against something which is untouchable, which helps user adoption during the mature stages of a game's life by allowing us to make sure that gameplay-affecting items are inflated while retaining the prestige of having something valuable. Probably. Wealthy players don't play the same way that you do, anyway. They shift gold/items around for most of their gameplay. There are no inherent costs to doing this by design, because stifling trading by introducing taxation is pretty toxic for the game on a fundamental level. Wealth inequality within a game is not inherently bad imo, but taxing this type of player is not easy, because you either need to break the promise of wealth being stored in certain types of items (we're not going to do this), you need to deflate their assets, or you need to tax the process of trading. Alternatively, you can just try to convince everyone that a hat is worthless. All of this value is imaginary, and created by you. If I had to pick and choose what "the real problem" is, I would say that there's a disconnect between yen / item inflation which is making players mad because they're finding that it's faster to just throw $5 at us than actually play the game. That's an indicator of yen inflation, and I don't really like the level of inflation we're currently seeing, which you can see in our last patch notes, so we'll continue to make adjustments. (Fun fact: There's one player who has the rarest hat in the game, the only one of its kind, which is completely worthless because he not only didn't sell it, but it looks terrible.) The GMs aren't actually going to do anything in the short-term, unless there's something really dumb going on with prize distribution (1st vs 2nd vs 3rd is too different). They would want to see long-term trends of monetary inflation before considering the adjustment of prize pools against the current state of the economy (when they make a decision). You guys get really mad when they reduce prizes, so they don't want to overbuff then say "oh no we messed up" and nerf it again, so they're always going to be tepid about it. The fact that I'm posting this will tell them that, no, they really shouldn't be touching prizes, it's a really bad idea to do it during a volatile economy regardless of how many angry people there are. No. We made a promise that they would be released once. No. We have been looking at reforms for formatting of official PvP events for a few months now, although we haven't had the opportunity to realize them yet. You'll understand why fairly soon, but we're pretty busy behind the scenes atm. I'd like to dump about 2 months into the PvP system fairly soon, I think you'd be happy with it by the time we're done. I'll make sure to keep the IV request in mind. Sorry for the informal tone for all of this, this thread is long. This is a very complicated set of questions which requires a lot of thought, and is definitely not addressed by "just make em all poor lol." This probably doesn't have the answers you want, but hopefully it'll give you a bit of insight to the thought process behind it all. nerd
