Captain Nomination | July 23rd, 2023 to August 13th, 2023

Anyone can apply to become a captain by filling the following template by replacing gbwead with your name and Canada with region in the world you want to represent (a country, a state, a territory, a province, etc.):

Quote

I, gbwead , would like to represent Canada as captain for World Cup 6. I consent that WC staff can confirm that I come from Canada

Warning! I do not want to know if the place in the world you want to represent is a country, a nation, a city, a region, a province, a state, a territory, etc. Any sign up that deviate from the template in any way will be rejected and removed at my discretion.

Potential captains will be interrogated by me or another member of the World Cup Staff to get certified.

List of captain's obligations:

  • Managing the funds of their team: captains will have to collect funds for their team
  • Selecting a roster for their team: captains will have the final say on who is accepted or rejected from their team
  • Submitting weekly lineups for their team
  • Assisting players scheduling their duels
  • Being active on Discord

Campaign & Funding | August July 23rd, 2023 to August 19th, 2023

Captains will have to collect donations from members of the community. Captains will also need to keep track of who donates and how much they donated on a private discord channel or private forum message between World Cup Staff and the captain. Players can only donate to one team. A team need to get a least 3 donations from players having played in previous world cups for the region represented by the team. The PokeMMO Master file will be used to verify the representation of the 3 mandatory donators.

The number of spots are limited based on the number of signed up teams to ensure only the most motivated teams get selected and indirectly maximazing donations.

Teams Selection | August 19th & 20th, 2023

On August 19th, 2023, all teams will yield their collected donations to WCSIX. Teams must do so before 11:59 AM UTC in order for their donations to be receivable.

If more than 30 unique teams sign up, only 24 will be selected. The 22 teams that donated the most will be the selected. Out of the remaining unselected teams, the 8 that donated the most will be split into two qualifiers tournaments (4 easterner teams will compete for one spot & 4 westerner teams will compete for another spot). The teams that do not get selected at all will have their donations returned.

If there are 24 to 29 unique teams that sign up, only 20 will be selected. The 18 teams that donated the most will be the selected. Out of the remaining unselected teams, the 8 that donated the most will be split into two qualifiers tournaments (4 easterner teams will compete for one spot & 4 westerner teams will compete for another spot). The teams that do not get selected at all will have their donations returned.

If there are 23 or less unique teams that sign up, only 16 will be selected. The 14 teams that donated the most will be the selected. Out of the remaining unselected teams, the 8 that donated the most will be split into two qualifiers tournaments (4 easterner teams will compete for one spot & 4 westerner teams will compete for another spot).

The teams that do not get selected at all will have their donations returned on August 27th.

The Qualifier tournament for East will be held on August 20th at 10 AM UTC.

The Qualifier tournament for West will be held on August 20th at 6 PM UTC.

Notes:

  • If two captains represent the same World Region, only one captain can be selected (the one that collected the most funds). The term "unique teams" refers to a World Region represented exclusively by one team.
  • Previous World Cup winners will be favored in the selection process with a x1.5 booster to their donations and x2 for the Defending Champions. For instance, if Team USA East Coast has collected 14M and Team China has collected 10M, Team China will be selected over Team USA East Coast because Team China is a previous WC winner (10M x 1.5 = 15M).
  • If two or more teams donate the same amount of money, the team that was created first will be favored.
  • During the qualification tournaments, the only eligeable players for his team will be the captain and the 3 mandatory donators. The format of the qualification tournaments will be a Bo3 in (i) OU, (ii) Captain Choice (OU/UU/NU/Dubs/LC) and (iii) Captain Choice (OU/UU/NU/Dubs/LC).

List of previous WC winners: Brazil, France, Belgium, China and Argentina.

Players Registration | August 20th, 2023 to September 2nd, 2023

Once the teams have been selected, a player registration thread will be opened. Players will only be able to register for one of the teams selected. Once a player signs up for a specific region, the captain of that specific region will need to reply to the sign up by stating whether or not they accept or refuse the player in their team. Players do not have be Italian in order to be in the Italian Team, they just need to be accepted by the Italian captain. Be wary of which captain you choose to support during the campaign and funding process, they will have the final say regarding who ends up in their team. The amount of players per team is unlimited.

Exception: Players that have contributed as one of the 3 mandatory donations will be automatically accepted. Captains, be wary of who you choose to accept donations from.

At the half way point of the player registration, if a team is at risk of not getting at least 6 players in their roster, that team will be replaced by the next top donator team.

Group Stage

24 teams selected | September 3rd, 2023 to October 8th, 2023

The 24 selected teams will be divided in 4 pools of 6 teams. Each week, teams from the same pool will face each other based on the weekly lineup submitted by their respective captain.

At the end of the Group Stage, the top 3 teams of each pool will advance to the Quarter Finals. At the end of the Group Stage, the last 3 teams will be eliminated.

CRITERIA

Spoiler
  1. SCORE (win = 3pts / tie = 1pt / loss = 0 pt)
  2. TB (Number of duels won minus duels lost versus tied opponents)
  3. PTS DIFF (Total number of duels won minus duels lost)

20 teams selected | September 3rd, 2023 to October 8th, 2023

The 20 selected teams will be divided in 4 pools of 5 teams. Each week, teams from the same pool will face each other based on the weekly lineup submitted by their respective captain. Teams that have no opponent from their own pool for the week will face off against teams in the same situation from other pools. Based on their performance in these out of pools face offs, teams will earn points difference (2nd criteria in Group Stage) and the best performing pools will get manager choice during the knock-out stage.

At the end of the Group Stage, the top 3 teams of each pool will advance to the Quarter Finals. At the end of the Group Stage, the last 2 teams will be eliminated.

OFFPOOL MATCHES

Spoiler

Letters represent from which pool each team comes from. Bolded bigger letters select the tier in which they will face the opposing team from another pool. A player can play multiple duels for his/her team only if each duel is in the same tier. Winning a duel gives a bonus pt towards the PT DIFF CRITERIA, losing a duel gives a malus pt towards the PT DIFF CRITERIA. Just like regular weeks, offpool teams will have 6 duels to play.

During playoffs, in each face off, one team will have a manager choice. The team with the manager choice will get to decide what tier to remove from the lineup. The best performing pools will be selecting the manager choice during the playoffs. This means that the third ranked team from Pool D could end up being the one selecting the manager choice against the first ranked team from Pool A.

CRITERIA

Spoiler
  1. SCORE (win = 3pts / tie = 1pt / loss = 0 pt)
  2. PTS DIFF (Total number of duels won minus duels lost + bonus from offpool matches)
  3. TB (Number of duels won minus duels lost versus tied opponents)

Scheduling

Players need to contact their opponent as soon as the week start. If they are mia at the start of the week, they need to give their availability to their captain before going mia. If a player is significantly more available than their opponent, their opponent will have to be forcibly subbed out. If both players are equally available, they will both be subbed out. Extensions will be granted only in extreme circumstances.

Once players agree on a specific time, they must post their scheduled battle time in the weekly thread at least 10 mins prior to the duel start.

Failure to schedule properly will lead to activity decisions by the World Cup Staff.

Disconnections

If the World Cup staff do not enforce the rematch on the player, the disconnected player will be considered the loser unless his/her opponent agrees to rematch on his/her own accord.

Cheating

What is considered cheating will be defined by the World Cup Police prior to the start of the season. They will be in charge of enforcing w.e rule they deem appropriate to ensure we have a fair competition. World Cup Police Rules

  • Coaching is not allowed. A player may still request assistance in the form of calculations 3 times in a duel at most (for players unable to do it by themselves). Sharing calculations unrequested is deemed as coaching.
  • Ghosting is never allowed.
  • Throwing a duel is never allowed.
  • Sabotaging your own team is not allowed.

Rule Breaking Reports
If you have proofs or evidence of any rule break, please contact a member of the WC Police:

Rule Breaking Consequences
If the burden proof is deemed sufficient by the WC Police , offenders may expect the following consequences:

  • Warning in the form of yellow card(s) attributed to a team in case of minor offense of Coaching or Throwing. If a team has 2 yellow cards, it will result in the temporary suspension of 2 players amongst their roster in the week the yellow card was received. They will also be suspended the week following the one where yellow card was received. Any additional yellow card past 2 results in red cards.
  • Punishment for offense of Ghosting, Sabotaging and major offense of Coaching and Throwing results in red card(s), where the offender is banned from the competition. Team captain will also be suspended from playing as a result if they share the guilt one way or another.

Discussing about some important topics:

First topic is tier rotation. The tiers selected on WC 5 sounds better because of freedom to both captain select a tier based on a Team strategy.

Second is Tiers. The classic 5 will be a little boring. I suggest add a gimmick format, and VGC looks better because it have a good playerbase.

Three is Compatibility to LC (And possible VGC). We see on WC 5 the current World Champions simply running from LC. To avoid incovenient situations like this, the thing that will say if team are or aren't LC/VGC compatible will be the players. Captain will need to take all players from their country unless the player itself decide to go for a "Rest of" team. If the team have 3 or more players able to play LC, then team will be LC compatible by default. If team have 0 players able to compete LC, then it will be not LC compatible by default. Captains of teams with 1 or 2 players can still decide if take the risk. Same rules will be applied to VGC.

Fourth point is format. The way that teams will be decided isn't clear but i leave my suggestion: The 12 teams that advanced to play offs on this WC will be guarranted on next edition. The 4th place on each group next year will defend their position on a Qualifier. For subsequent years, 16 teams will be pre-selected based on previous year while the others will register to compete on a 2nd division. After group stage ends, last teams on each group and first placed on 2nd division will fight for place on next year's main tournament.

In my opinion, if you're looking for a competitive event, you can't add gimmicks, we can add stuff like SM or something like that, which keeps being competitive, but stuff like Monotype or alikes, aren't very good for something which is made to be competitive itself.

When i talk gimmick, i'm saying non-official formats. For instance, LC now is a gimmick. But the gimmick will not be on rotation everytime, but can be selected as a CC tier.

Also, about the format that i don't leave clear: They will look like UEFA Nations League format: 16 Teams(12 qualified on play-offs of WC5 + 4 play-off winners beetween 4th and 5th group stage teams) will compete in 4 groups on 4, with the first place only advancing to a play-off. Other nations can signup but will compete on a qualifying tour(with the play-off losers) when top 4 will face themselves in a play-off. Winners will have spot on WC 7, losers will play a play-off to obtain spot on WC 7.
On main tour, things will not be easier. 4th place of each group will face themselves, winner play a play-off to defend their position on WC7 while loser will be directly relegated to qualifier division.

About the matches, when tour starts the teams will go on a auction to get their "Home" stadiums for play their games(Will no longer be fixed on Vermilion and we will be free from Lag while watching with the matches splited on different zones of the PokéMMO World!) and this can replace the teams funding. Tiers can be changed to OU/UU/NU/DB/LC or OU(if both teams are LC compatible, then it will be LC, otherwise OU.)/Home Team Choice(LC not included.). Then will be a 6 week calendar on group stage.

Even if it's officially removed from the competitive tiers here in MMO, it's a fact that many people keep playing the tier, we still do several tournaments with it, also, when I talk about gimmick, I refer to tiers which are more like memes or non-competitive, so that's why I think you shouldn't consider LC a gimmick in an unofficial event.

World Cup 2023 > World Cup 6

Ya I know..., but since I had already created the WCSIX account for donations and didn't want any confusion, I thought it would probably be best to keep the same format.

First point - Am I the only one who finds this post ridiculous?
The current world cup is still starting the playoffs... 6 weeks or less to finish, is it too long to wait????

Second point - This year no one wanted to host the world cup and the community was already saying publicly there wasn't going to be one, and then and only then the actual host did it. (... despite no one wanting to host it, once things got under way, other possible hosts popped out LOL ).

Apparently in this community they often don't want to do anything and are only motivated when it's to run over others, that's why this post is really being posted so early like no other event probably. I'm gona do a post saying im gona host next world cup then LOL.
Or you even know if actual host is already planning that or if the host is already passing the tourch to someone else?
In this WC, the seriousness of the event has recovered in many ways and because of that there were people already motivated and interested in participating again and eventually in being a host, and by making a post like this, these people did not even have the opportunity.

Third point - I just read some potential rules that are ridiculous.
Pay to participate event???
Prize pool for media partners???
World cup police???
Sign ups for regions, citys or whatever people want with no rules??
Etc.

I think this game staff should seriously think about making this event official to avoid this kind of self-centered idiocy that comes only to step in others when current event isn't finished yet.

If anyone wants to host WC 6 instead of me, they are welcomed to do so. If no one wants to do it, I'm ready to do it and I'm giving the opportunity to the community to voice their opinion on what I am planning.

Also, WC and PSL are once a year event. This often means that whenever a new season starts, people often forget about the previous season and fail to give proper feedback on what went well and what could be improved. I'm opening this thread to get as much information as possible when everything is fresh in people's mind.

I heard that following the Group Stage of WC 5, there would be a 2 weeks break prior to the  playoffs. I thoughts that's a good window to announce the potential next season without removing any hype from the current one.

Playoffs will start on this week. Quarterfinals will start after the break.

Before anyone thinks about being a host, is thinking about ending this event, playing on halloween, christmas, new year, johto, etc etc etc, and even if someone wants to be a host after that, with a post like this and with this advance notice so earlier where "things are already created", they will hardly say so.
Well played. You are a smart guy. Use this now to create rules as it should be.

RDL being a trusted member of our community, I am still surprised to this day that he was not chosen

Because the point of this post is to secure the spot before the current event ends and not give anyone else the opportunity, nothing more
